Island Hopping in the Cyclades: Part 1

A stunning view of the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea with rocky islands in the distance. A small boat is visible on the water, surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the Cyclades, Greece.

Island hopping in the Cyclades is the newest trend in vacationing. It allows you to relax and enjoy the beach and the sun while also visiting more than a few islands at a time. It might be a bit costly but it is definitely worth the extra spend as it allows you to enjoy ‘the best of all worlds’.

From the beautiful sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and vivid nightlife, the Cyclades are the ideal destination for island hopping and the best way to enjoy several islands in no more than a week. The number of days you want to spend on each island is entirely up to you and your liking, as all of the islands have their own charm and unique beauty.

One of our favorite routes to follow when it comes to island hopping cruises in the Cyclades starts from Tinos, moves on to Mykonos, Naxos, and Paros, and end leads to Antiparos. Starting off with an underestimated but as beautiful and magical as the rest of the Cyclades, we have Tinos. Known for its numerous small chapels and monasteries and of course the Holy Chapel of Panagia the Evangelistria, Tinos is a popular destination for Christians across the world, but also an enjoyable island with unique architecture and beaches.

Next on the list is Naxos. Naxos is an island known for its traditional, both mountainous and coastal, villages and beautiful waters. It can fit into anyone’s cup of tea, as it is optimum for vacationing with your family, friends, or significant other. If you happen to stroll across the old town, make sure to visit the archaeological museum of Naxos and travel to a different time.

Moving on, we have Mykonos. Just 10 nm away from Tinos, a completely different island appears, with its own unique characteristics. Mykonos is a place to party, dance, and have a fantastic time. At the same time, though, one can find peace in smaller and more remote beaches while you should not miss a visit to Saint Anna beach, the old port, and the old town.

Across Naxos and in the center of the Cyclades lies Paros. Paros has always been favored by both greek and foreign people as Naousa, a village in Paros is one of the most cosmopolitan places of the Cyclades. It is full of white traditional greek houses, small taverns, and peaceful little churches. At the same time, Naousa is well-known for its exciting nightlife and the myriad of water sports someone can partake.

Lati but not least, we have Antiparos. The smallest island of the trip and only half an hour away from Paros, Antiparos is a great day destination for a change of scenery and for people who like more laid-back and quaint places. The little island is also known for its beautiful hiking trails and ‘The Cave of Antiparos’, which will leave you speechless. You can also cruise around Antiparos with your boat and get a taste of the majestic waters and sea life of the island while stopping to rest and eat in one of the many picturesque taverns.

If you wish to return to Athens or Thessaloniki by plane, you can always go back to Paros and grab the next flight from the airport, located only 10 km away from Parikia, the capital and main port of the island. An alternative way is to grab the ferry from Paros and go to Santorini or Mykonos and reach your destination as there are flights to many European cities from those islands.
