Continuing along the island hopping series, we have a second part to our “Island hopping in the Cyclades” piece. This time, discovering the southwestern part of the unique island complex. Although all of the small greek enclaves are stunning in their own way, most people claim that the southern part of the Cyclades is what renders them astonishing and magnetic. The worldly-known sunset of Santorini, the crystal clear beaches of Sifnos, and the medieval Castro of Folegandros are only some of the islands’ attractions that make them irresistible and lovable.
Discover Serifos
This week’s cruise begins from Serifos, an island located in the western-centric part of the Cyclades, known for its calmness and its untouched scenery. It is ideal for yacht enthusiasts as it possesses a highly organized port, Livadi, and a nearby beach called Livadakia, which is protected from the wind and has all the necessary amenities one might need.
Discover Sifnos
Moving on to the next Cycladic island, we arrive in Sifnos, a one-of-a-kind island, that has everything you would expect, from the white-painted houses with the blue details to the delicious food and the warm and hospitable locals. The port of Sifnos, Kamares, is definitely a unique destination, but we would suggest stopping by, or even spending a day in Platis Gialos, to enjoy the blissful and carefree aura of the area, try the amazing food and enjoy the sunset.
Tip!
Don’t forget to drop by Poliegos for at least a couple of hours to enjoy a good swim in the translucent waters of the small enclave.
Discover Milos
The next stop has to be Milos, one of the most cosmopolitan islands of the Aegean Sea. Despite being known mostly for its admirable architecture and art galleries, Milos is also known for possessing one of the biggest natural ports in the Mediterranean sea, Adamanta. At the same time, some of the most beautiful places one can pay a visit to when having a boat, as they are only approachable by the sea, are Kleftiko and Sarakiniko, two breathtaking sights you cannot miss when going to Milos.
Discover Kimolos
Right across Milos lies the magical Kimolos, a small and rocky island with a medieval and laid-back aesthetic. Once you get there, you should definitely visit Chorio as it is the one and only town of the island. Kimolos is also ideal for hiking lovers as there are many paths waiting to be discovered.
Discover Folegandros
Next to last comes Folegandros. Folegandros stands on the southern part of the Cyclades, between Milos and Santorini. For those who seek calmness and wish to go somewhere more secluded, Folegandros is the way to go, as the tourist season does not start until June. It is perfect for those who wish to get away from the hustle of the city and recharge their batteries along the undomesticated scenery, the blue-green waters, and the medieval views.
Discover Santorini
Last but, definitely, not least comes Santorini, an island renowned for its breathtaking sunset. Some claim that Santorini is ‘heaven on earth’ as the view from Oia combined with the whitewashed buildings, the traditional windmills, and the blue dome churches shape one of the most stunning views one can witness. At the same time, Santorini has an international airport (JTR) with flights to numerous European capitals to further facilitate you and ease your transportation.
